About Lawyers for Learning
More than 75 members of the Rochester legal community (lawyers, paralegals, administrative assistants and others) devote at least one hour per week to mentoring students who attend School #29, a K-6 elementary school located on Rochester's west side.

Mentors work with individual students or an entire class. They provide reading and math assistance, play educational games, and, most importantly, serve as positive role models. Lawyers for Learning also hosts an annual dinner for School #29 families, funds field trips, sponsors reading contests, distributes free books and provides enrichment grants to worthy students.

The Partnership is always looking for more mentors, since there is usually a list of students who are waiting for their own "lawyer." Schedules are flexible and the school is conveniently located about ten minutes from downtown. Most mentors describe their time at School #29 as the best, most-satisfying hour of their entire week! The Monroe County Bar Association salutes all of the volunteers in its highly-acclaimed Lawyers for Learning program.

We are always accepting applications to be a mentor. Please contact Liz Novak at 546-1817 or send an e-mail to lnovak@mcba.org, if you're interested. Sign up now as a mentor for the 2009-10 school year.

In addition, the Lawyers for Learning Committee meets once a month and is always looking for new members. MCBA encourages you to join the Committee and support its various projects.
