Public Education Programs
Lawyers for Learning The Monroe County Bar Association salutes all of the volunteers in its highly-acclaimed Lawyers for Learning program, now heading into its 17th year.
The Lawyers for Learning Committee meets once a month and is always looking for new members. MCBA encourages you to join the Committee and support its various projects. More details...
Sydney R. Rubin Mock Trial Competition Students from area high schools prepare for an assigned case with assistance from a teacher coach and one or more attorney advisors. The competition runs from January through March. Attorneys also serve as judges for the first round of competition, with sitting judges presiding at the other rounds.
If your school is interested in participating in the 2010 Mock Trial Competition or if you are an attorney and wish to be an attorney coach for a high school team, please contact Liz Novak at (585) 546-1817.
Court Tour Program The Monroe County Court Tour Program, a collaboration of the New York State Unified Court System and the Monroe County Bar Association, is designed to provide participants with direct exposure to the courthouse and to familiarize them with the New York State Court System, the role of the judiciary, and the basic mechanics of trial or the legal argument of an issue. Through lectures, direct participation, observation, and the questions-and-answer discussion, it is hoped that participants will gain a better understanding of the judicial branch of government and the process by which a case comes to trial and a decision is rendered.
To schedule a court tour for your class or organization, please contact Timothy Hunt at (585) 428-1854.
