Young Lawyers Section
Welcome to the 2013 New Admittees: Congratulations on your admission to the practice of law and welcome to the MCBA’s Young Lawyers Section.
The Young Lawyers Section has been recognized by the Monroe County Youth Services Quality Council for their work with Rochester Teen Court. The Young Lawyers Section received the Outstanding Asset-Builder Award on September 28, 2013.
About the Young Lawyers Section
The Young Lawyers Section (YLS) of the Monroe County Bar Association is dedicated to community service, education, and social activities within and outside of the bar for young attorneys in the Greater Rochester Area.
Community Service and volunteering work includes working with Rochester Teen Court, by serving as mediators in an alternative sentencing system for non-violent youth offenders, as well as hosting an Annual Silent Auction to benefit Teen Court. The YLS also volunteers in Reentry Court in the District Court, W.D.N.Y., which assists in the reintegration of federal prison releases in order to reduce recidivism.
The YLS hosts a number of Continuing Legal Education programs each year with a focus on topics of special interests to young attorneys, including developing skills and an upcoming CLE on Federal Court litigation, with a tour of the Federal Courts.
YLS hosts regular social events and activities, including with other sections of the bar and other young professional organizations. These include a YLS volleyball team at Hot Shots, an upcoming kickball team, a Mary Jemison Fall Boat Cruise, and Halloween and New Year’s Happy Hours. YLS also volunteers and participates in Barktoberfest at Lollypop Farms and the upcoming Tour de Cure.
Numerous YLS members have won recognition and awards over the past year. Congratulation to our Up & Coming Attorneys and to James Paulino, Esq. who was selected as the 2013 Outstanding Young Lawyer by the New York State Bar Association.
Wende Knapp, Esq.
